In Support of Creative Arts Education

Practicing creative arts enables children to find their natural talents and expand their self-awareness.  Additionally, creative arts facilitate self-expression and communication by nurturing ideas, feelings, and imagination. Children can enhance their social and communication skills through artistic collaboration as they learn to respect others' ways of working and thinking.

During my lower primary school years, I recall having music and art classes - which is likely where my passion for music began.  As I advanced to higher classes, the curriculum shifted and creative art offerings diminished. The absence of art education negatively affected my learning process by depriving me of opportunities for self-expression.

During upper primary years, I grew easily bored in class. Our curriculum focused on analytical subjects and I struggled to concentrate.  I dreaded going home knowing hours of math work awaited me. When I joined high school, I spent my free time studying piano from a classmate who performed during Sunday service. I appreciated how I could express myself through piano playing, which would inspire my passion for music production.

After high school, my love for music motivated me to pursue deejay training. I discovered how to communicate through music and deejaying provides the opportunity.  I expanded my skills in production and, in 2020, I recorded my first extended play. I successfully managed to find an artistic channel to share what was on my mind and in my heart. Every song I produce provides a huge, unexplainable, sense of relief.

I hope that Kenya’s shift to the CBC program will support children to become the best version of themselves by providing opportunities for creative arts.  Art exposure in youth will inspire the artists of our nation to create and innovate while sponsoring connection between individuals and communities.
