Equitable access to education and healthcare are universal human rights. The Leo Project recognizes that birthplace, socioeconomic status, and gender often dictate one’s ability to realize these rights. The Leo Project pilots, implements, and sustains programs as a means to unite, empower, and - most importantly - drive social change. We believe in grassroots initiatives, sustainable impact, community-driven efforts, and addressing the root causes of social issues.  Through partnerships with local and international organizations, we offer high-quality resources to the community we serve. Our education programs equip adolescents and adults in our communities with the tools and education they need to lead healthy and empowered lives. Our Health Clinic provides comprehensive primary care, nutrition, mental health, sexual and reproductive health, and maternal and child healthcare services.

HEALTH.

In August 2023, The Caitlin O’Hara Community Health Clinic (the Health Clinic) opened its doors to the public. As our largest health initiative to date, this project involved years of meticulous planning. We formed a partnership with the Kenyan Ministry of Health (MoH) and collaborated with global health specialists. Build Health International lent their expertise in medical infrastructure to lay the groundwork for our facility and ensured our clinic was designed sustainably, for optimal flow of treatment.

The Health Clinic is run by an experienced team of ten healthcare professionals. Together, they deliver equitable, sustainable, and accessible health services to the community through holistic outpatient care and outreach programs. With a fully-equipped laboratory, pharmacy, point of care ultrasound, EKG, and CT scan, the Health Clinic helps to fill many of the existing gaps within our catchment area of 500,000 people.

EDUCATION.

The Leo Project’s education programs promote a holistic learning experience for our community. We have partnerships with ten local primary and secondary schools within Laikipia County where we deliver daily programming in digital literacy, sexual and reproductive health, personal empowerment, climate and health, mental wellness, and creative arts. Additionally, via daily literacy and numeracy programs held at The Leo Project’s Resource Center, we equip adults with the tools and education they need to lead healthy and empowered lives.

Community outreach.

Our community outreach clinics bring education, prevention, screening, and treatment services to the harder-to-reach, more vulnerable population groups within Laikipia County.

Through a long-term partnership with WellAware, we provide safe and reliable water access to our community via a roadside water kiosk.
