Title: Director of Operations & Administration
Location: On-site, The Leo Project (TLP) Headquarters – Jua Kali, Nanyuki, Kenya

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Operations & Administration is a member of TLP’s Leadership Team serves as the Executive Director’s strategic partner and operational lead. This role ensures organizational alignment, operational excellence, and the effective execution of TLP’s strategic priorities. The ideal candidate is a systems thinker, exceptional communicator, and operational problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and embodies the ethos behind The Leo Project.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership & Organizational Alignment
Serve as a trusted advisor and thought partner to the Executive Director.
Translate strategic priorities into actionable plans, timelines, and measurable outcomes.
Drive cross-departmental coordination across leadership, education, and healthcare teams.
Prepare briefings, strategy documents, and decision-support materials for the Executive Director, Director of Strategy & Development, and the US and Kenya-based Boards.
Operational Management
Oversee day-to-day operations across programs, ensuring quality, compliance, and efficiency.
Strengthen internal systems, SOPs, workflows, and operational infrastructure as TLP scales.
Work with the HR Consultant to refine hiring processes, staffing plans, performance management, and team capacity-building.
Work with the Finance Team to support procurement, budgeting, financial planning, and grant compliance.
Ensure that all financial transactions are properly documented with receipts and presented during weekly accounting meetings.
Hold weekly check-ins with direct reports (Clinical and Education).
Program Execution & Expansion
Coordinate implementation of strategic priorities, including inpatient maternity/oncology expansion and health facility strengthening.
Facilitate monitoring, evaluation, and data-driven decision-making across all programs.
Support the Director of Strategy & Development with cross-functional project management for grants, donor deliverables, and reporting.
Governance & Stakeholder Engagement
Represent TLP in meetings, working groups, and high-level external engagements when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in public health, global health, business, public policy, or a related field is required. Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum 10 years of experience in operations, project management, global health, nonprofit management, or related disciplines.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, timelines, and cross-functional teams.
Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills.
Applicants must have valid authorization to work in Kenya.
WORKING CONDITIONS
A significant (~8-hour) time difference with US-based colleagues is acknowledged, and flexibility is expected for scheduled and unscheduled communications.
TLP operates Monday–Friday, approximately 9:00am–6:00pm, with occasional Saturday hours. Flexibility is essential.
